A sublime trip through sound
Created by musicians Hélio Pisca and Júnior Bocão, remainders of the Brazilian band Mopho, the band “Casa Flutuante” releases their first CD “A Terra é Nossa Casa Flutuante”
The title refers to the idea by which planet Earth, our dwelling place, is our house. A house hovering around the sun and sheltering such unlike beings as the stars, light bodies never reflecting the same brightness. A house whose complexity and beauty lead us to imagine how indispensable is to care for it. A “Casa Flutuante” (which means Floating House), taking us all through space and time and rebuilding generations with the whole generosity of its nature.
The band “Casa Flutuante” was created in January 2003 and emerged from the reunion of drummer Hélio Pisca and bassist Júnior Bocão, who after leaving their old band Mopho had their musical impressions come to life. While preparing their debut CD “A Terra é Nossa Casa Flutuante”, along with arranger Billy Magno, the third element in this group, the couple released their first work in January 2004 independently by themselves.
Recorded at Megavox Studio, in Maceió (Alagoas-Brazil), between February and September 2003 and mastered by legendary producer Luiz Calanca (from Baratos Afins recording label in São Paulo - Brazil), the album comprises seven songs by Júnior Bocão and three of them by Hélio Pisca, totalizing ten tracks which revisit a very peculiar way of making music, mainly under the influence of rock and roll. The couple in live gigs becomes a quartet (with Billy Magno playing electric piano and Marcus Vinícius playing electric and acoustic guitar) and their musical references span a wide range of fashions and styles, featuring most of the typical sound of the 60's and 70's.
Those influences are everywhere in the record, recalling the orchestration (by Billy Magno) deeply explored by rock and roll groups of those decades, as in the tracks “Nossa Canção” and “Mais um Dia” and “A Outra Face”, which received sublime arrangements with string and horn suits. Mentioning the heavy and wandering sound from the most creative and perfect rock and roll era, the tracklist invites us all to take a trip through an universe full of musical surprises, made real in compositions such as “Imaginação”, “Paredes” and “Olha o Tempo”.
The sonorous mosaics have also reaffirmed the band's clear vintage intention, which can be perceived in detail in the tracks “Você e Esse Mundo Louco”, “A Família é Inimiga da Arte” and “População: Zero”. Coming in the form of musical collages mixed with disturbing or agitating sensations, the songs affect elaborated conscience levels, leading the listener to dive into an undoubtedly noir soundtrack.
