BIOGRAPHY
Chailo Sim initially formed as a five-piece band based in Pembrokeshire Wales 2006, playing original material written by lead singer/songwriter Nayfe Slusarczyk Janukowicz. After a few months of generating ideas and developing their own identity, the band took on a further three musicians to increase the depth and versatility of song-writing and live performance; and every member of the band now participates in writing new material. The band enjoys a creative balance that is sought after by many developing artists, and a shared passion for raw acoustic music has inspired the group to draw from a diverse range of musical backgrounds, culminating in a unique, original and exciting sound that takes full advantage of the dynamic instruments involved. The songs that follow from such an eclectic gathering can be rather difficult to contain within one genre. Chailo Sim are just happy to be known as a band that writes great music. Fans of their music tend to like other ‘raw’ and moving acoustic artists such as Ben Harper, Dave Matthew’s Band, and Scott Matthews, and people enjoy the similarities that Chailo Sim share with the more tender collective artists such as Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Kings of Convenience and Sufjan Stevens. With no manager, promotor or record contract - and only a handful of recordings to date - Chailo Sim have already accumulated an extensive and loyal fan-base both locally, and online via websites such as MySpace. Demand for a debut album is rapidly increasing and local gigs are selling out quickly to keen followers. Cardiff-based Television Production Company BOOMERANG are considering Chailo Sim’s music for possible TV & Film music scores for 2007 - this being an area that Chailo Sim are specifically hoping to indulge in; and sponsorship deals are being offered by international Clothing companies such as Pistache CLOTHING Ltd, arising from chance encounters with the band online. In particular, MySpace has played a major role in spreading these rare recordings to fans and professional ears alike, and with breathtaking results...many revered music venues in the UK, America and Canada have started to offer gigs to Chailo Sim that most bands would pay to play. National UK radio stations have requested material to play on the british airwaves, and online radio stations such as The Post Modern Rock Show - a popular alternative radio show hosted by Dave Cusick in Portland, Oregon; have played songs with delight to bring Chailo Sim’s unique brand of british music to an avid American audience. “Anyone managing to catch a moment of this rare and remarkable acoustic group will feel like the world isn't such a bad place after all. The music is beautiful; raw and simple - with subtle flourishes of energy that leave the listener thoroughly intrigued” (Online review,Channel 4 Music 2006) Record Labels to the tune of the mighty 4AD (Pixies/Kristin Hersh/TV on the Radio), GRONLAND RECORDS (Sol Seppy/Merz) and ASTHMATIC KITTY (Sufjan Stevens/Half-Handed-Cloud/Castanets) have shown a keen interest, and have requested demo material to follow progression of the band as soon as it happens. Sounds Familyre’s haunting marital duo Ben + Vesper - friends and comrades of fellow New-Folk Artist Sufjan Stevens - have invited Chailo Sim to co-bill stages over in the Unites States, and many people are now looking forward to possible collaborations between Chailo Sim and Sufjan’s close-knit circle of friends in the future, furthering the reach of the band’s infectious music. MARK KRAMER, international producer for American Artists such as Danielson, Lou Reed, Galaxie 500, and Low - has also praised the music so far, giving regular encouragement and industry advice to the band. In January 2007 Kramer sent an email to Nayfe, offering to produce Chailo Sim’s debut CD, which he had to decline for financial reasons. Chailo Sim are currently seeking a UK Artist Management company to help progress national and international interest, and have begun to look for an appropriate record label that can provide the means to create and distribute a phenomenal debut album.
