The Zutons confirm a show in Truro

SW1 and Metropolis are thrilled to announce that Mercury Prize Nominated band The Zutons will be performing at the Hall for Cornwall on May 29th, as part of an extensive UK tour to promote their eagerly anticipated new album.

“Tired of Hanging Around”, the follow up to their stunning debut “Who Killed the Zutons” (which was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2004 and has clocked up multi-platinum sales) is due out in late April, preceded a couple of weeks earlier by the release of the first single off the album “Why Won’t You Give Me Your Love”, which was previewed last week on the Zane Lowe show on Radio 1.  The new album has been produced by Stephen Street, also known for his work with The Smiths, Graham Coxon and recent Brit Awards winners The Kaiser Chiefs to name but a few, and is not expected to disappoint Zutons fans – “it’s the Zutons, but better” says band frontman David McCabe.

Whilst retaining the signature style of The Zutons, the  album marks a development in the band’s sound.  McCabe admits that the first album consisted of a certain amount of the band finding their feet, with the assistance of producer Ian Broudie.  Speaking of the second album, McCabe says “We know how to put ourselves across better – and know how to put our feelings across.  It’s a lot harder and a lot more soulful.  We wanted to make this album more like a live album”.

The songs on “Tired of Hanging Around” draw from the band’s experiences gained when touring with the first album and contain plenty of contradictions – there are songs about “being defiant in the face of your hangover” (It’s Alright), a song about stalking someone “for a laugh” jokes McCabe (Why Won’t You Give Me Your Love?) and about being in love with someone from afar (Valerie).

Several new tracks were previewed on Valentines Day, when the band performed a low-key show at Koko in London , for the NME Awards Tours, which have become renowned for showcasing some of the most exciting new material and bands.

The band have been getting themselves back into the swing of live performances, with a few shows in Australia and New Zealand over the New Year, as well as a performance at Tasmania’s Falls Festival, and are also expected to play at the upcoming showcase of musical talent, SXSW (South By South West) in Austin, Texas.

For The Zutons, the live arena is where they really feel they belong and they are excited about getting back out there to show off the new album with it’s meaty riffs, unmistakeable swampy rhythms and urgent saxophone.  As McCabe says, “I’d rather be out there all the time, playing again”.

Tickets are £16 and are available at the Hall for Cornwall (01872) 262466 and www.gigsandtours.com 0207 287 0932, or 0207 734 8932.
